At the starting line, the windward side seemed to be the better, so most of the boats have chosen it. Except a couple of boats, who have prepared for the left side.
For them it seemed to be a wrong decision, because the others, (at the windward side) jumped to the front.
In the second third of the course, a refreshening breeze came into on leeward, so the first four boats to the mark, arrived from there.
The German Heiko Winkler led the race, the Hungarian boat steered by Balázs Gyenese, sailed on the 3rd place. The other Hungarians (such as Antal Székely, Tibor Orszagh) were in the top ten aswell.
The Race Committee marked a traditional Olympic course for the race. In the meantime the wind weakend on the run, but after the second upwind section began to strengthen back again. Ther were no change on the top at all. From the middle field the Wossala team started to move up a bit, and the Balázs Gyenese steered boat sailed up to the second place.
The last upwind run has belong to the ukrainian Pitchugin, he finished on the second place, behind the german Heiko Winkler. Balázs Gyenese finished at the 3rd, Antal Székely on the 7th, György Wossala on the 8th position.
